As we all know reading isnt appealing to every child, so this year im going to try and make it a fun thing.
little do they know it will be a learning thing ;-)
The children this year will be doing Journals and while at it, ive left a divider for a Reading Logs and they will fill in two work sheets 'Books ive read' and 'books they love'
(found these two nifty work sheets HERE: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/reading-logs.htm )
As well as using the two printable sheets above, they will use bookmarks, found a few here: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/wildlife_bookmarks.htm
on which they will add one sticker, for every book they read.
And here is the best part, for every 5 books, they read, no matter how small or how long the book is, they will receive a reading award and a gift certificate. The value of each gift certificates, will depend upon their behaviour and attitudes at the time.
Found some fun Reading Awards HERE:
and the gift cards are found HERE:
AND as part of their Journal work, every now and then ill get them to write their own book reviews and draw a picture of story etc...
and last but not least, extra special awards for the right attitude and behaviour: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/special-award-certificates.htm
(i prayer i do not make Pharisees of my children, but i do hope they will learn, what is right and good and Holy and think on such things!)
BELOW ARE EXAMPLES OF THE ABOVE links print outs - LAMINATED AND READY FOR USE and once the year is over, they will be kept in a storage container, labelled: school-keep sakes.
On each gift certificate, i wrote a different reward, like: A soft serve or A Happy Meal (from McDonald's), Chocolate Bar, Milk Shake, Treat of your choice, $1.00, .50c, $2.00 and the biggest one is $5.00.
and because their all laminated i can use them over and over.
